The Yankee Chapter AOMCI formal wet meet at Indian Well State Park in Shelton CT has been rescheduled to Saturday September 13th 2008. (Barring any more nasty rain storms!) Located on the Housatonic River, the park sports ample parking, a boat ramp, plenty of beachfront for boats to be pulled up, barbecues and port-a-potties. There will be a sign in and $5 entry fee per member family attending the meet to cover the cost of the event - you must be a current AOMCI member to participate. Directions can be found at the bottom of this page.

2008 marks the 69th anniversary of Mercury outboard motors. To honor this historic event the Yankee Chapter will celebrate by devoting the 2008 formal awards exclusively to outboards made by Kiekhaefer Mercury. Included in this celebration are earlier Thor motors and private label Mercury made Sea King and Wizard outboards. The awards will be in the following categories.

Class 9) Boat & Mercury outboard motor Combination
Boats with 1959 and earlier Mercury, Thor, Wizard & Mercury made Sea King outboards

10) Presidents Award - Best In Show
Winner is the entry that receives the most over-all votes!

All outboard motors entered must be in operational condition.

How the Judging Will Work
This year the judging will be done by "people's choice". People competing for the awards will be asked to complete an entry form entering each item (as appropriate) into one of the classes 1-9 above. They will receive a number to display under the transom clamps of their motor or on their boat or display. (Numbers 100-199 for Class 1, 200-299 for Class 2, 300-399 for Class 3, etc..) All motors and items to be judged must be in the designated Judging Area by 10:00AM

Attendees to the meet will be offered a ballot form at sign-in to write in the numbers of their choices for each category - participation is optional and ballots are limited to one per member family. Ballots will be turned in at the sign-in tent by no later than 12:01PM. Things to consider when judging

The winner of each award will be the one with the most votes. To encourage participation members may only win one award. If an individual enters several different items and wins more than one class they will get to choose which award to keep, the other will go to the next runner up in that class. In the event of a tie or any disputes the Chapter President will decide the winner. There will be a brief annual chapter meeting at approximately 12:30PM with the awards presented afterwards.

The Yankee Chapter of the AOMCI encourages people to bring motors, boats and outboard related items to the meet even if they are not entered in the formal judging. The national AOMCI organization requires each chapter to have one formal event and meeting each year

How You Can Help
Help make the meet fun for all, share your knowledge and enthusiasm for old outboards – why not bring a friend who is not a member!

Attendees to the meet will want to bring a lunch or several restaurants are a short distance from the park – some even accessible by boat! There are grills, picnic tables and porta-potties available at the park. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at all AOMCI events.

The Connecticut DEP has rules on safety, speed and decibels for boats operating at Indian Well that are strictly enforced - most race boats and motors will not comply. Please be certain all boats run at Indian Well meet the State of Connecticut's requirements, have appropriate state registration, insurance and safety gear on board. Information on these requirements can be found at the CT DEP website. Also, here is the link to the Indian Well State Park website with additional information and directions.

All boats traveling on the river should stay to their right when traveling up or down-river. Please exorcise caution and courtesy at all times and particularly when operating near the boat ramp, beaches or in congested areas. Have a fun and safe day on the water!

NOTE: Please contact the host if you can bring a sturdy and stable sawhorse for use in the display area. People displaying large motors or bulky/heavy items should plan on bringing their own stands. Please be sure that all items displayed are secure and stable.
