Framingham MA Meet - January 26th 2008

By Heat Miser

We had an excellent turn out for Ron & Lois M's meet at Edwards Church in Framingham MA. The excitement built to a fever pitch for two weeks prior to the meet, everyone was really looking forward to it! This was the official kick-off to the Yankee Chapter's 2008 season, by the time this writer arrived at 8:15 there were no parking places left!

As always, lots of outboards, parts, tools, literature, a couple of boats and a few other odds & ends found new homes. There are lots of photos below showing the motors and stuff that traded hands. The weather reached a high of a "balmy" 38 degrees - honestly there were times that standing in the sun was very pleasant!

There was plenty of good hot coffee, donuts and a great lunch inside the church hall. Many folks simply pulled up a chair and chatted about old outboards in the hall for most of the day - what better thing is there to do on a winter Saturday?

Jim Moffatt gave two demonstrations, 10:00AM and 12:30PM, of successful modern coil conversions for antique outboards. This symposium was well received and was enjoyed by over 30 people. It was so successful that other "guest lecturers" are being requested for future meets.

Thanks to Ron and Lois M. for holding this great meet!

There were so many people and so much stuff that many folks like Rick W. had to set up out on the street! Seen here are a Bearcat leg & hood (no powerhead), Gale 25, Evinrude 18 and an auto transmission Merc.

Kids had fun too - but who wouldn't with a ton of tasty donuts!

Hostess Lois M. with help from Maureen L. did a great job keeping the hot coffee & delicious treats coming!

A fabulous lunch was enjoyed by all!

Jim Moffatt was our special guest lecturer on how to swap modern OMC coils for the dead ones in antique outboards. It was a great discussion.

People were literally agog* at the work Jim has done!

* Note: (agog \uh-GOG\, adjective:
Full of excitement or interest; in eager desire; eager, keen. )

Bob T. said "it really takes the cake" He'll have his recalcitrant old Lockwood up & running in no-time now.

Jim's home-made coil & points tester

Hurricane Harry helped with the demo - but touch that and you'll get zapped!

A very special thanks to Jim Moffatt for bringing the cake to celebrate 2008!
